What is The Phone and why choose a phone without Internet?

The Phone, like its upgraded version The Phone +, is a modern touchscreen device that only allows calls and text messages, with no Internet or social media. It combines the simplicity of a basic phone with the ergonomics of a smartphone, so you can stay reachable without distractions.

Is The Phone only for children, or is it also suitable for adults and seniors?

No! ThePhone is for everyone: children, adults looking to disconnect, and seniors looking for a simple and secure phone. It's ideal as a first phone or a second device to stay reachable without internet.

Features and Usage

What is the difference between The Phone and The Phone +?

The classic The Phone model (now sold out): a touchscreen phone with no access to the Internet or social media, featuring a clean, minimalist design. It only allows calls and SMS, and works on 2G/3G networks.

The Phone + model: keeps the same simplicity as the classic model, but with a new design, reinforced components, and 4G compatibility. It still has no Internet or social media, and only allows calls and SMS.

Why choose The Phone over a keypad phone?

Unlike keypad phones, The Phone has a modern design and a touchscreen that make it attractive to both children and adults, while remaining simple and without internet.

Does The Phone have a geolocation function?

The phone does not have a GPS chip or built-in geolocation function. This means it cannot be located directly from an app or associated service.

If you want to be able to find the device if it is lost, it is perfectly possible to use an AirTag type tag (or equivalent) to slip under the phone case.

This solution will allow you to track the phone's location using a dedicated app. Geolocation is one of the features being considered for our The Phone + model.

Can you delete the call history or block a contact on The Phone?

The contact blocking feature is available on The Phone +.

However, on the first model, The Phone, the call history cannot be deleted, and contacts cannot be blocked or removed.

This was originally designed as a protective measure to give parents full access to their child’s communications, ensuring a safe and secure environment.

How do I delete a contact on The Phone+?

1. Select the contact to delete

2. Press the stylus to edit

3. Tap edit

4. Delete using the trash can icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

5. Confirm the deletion

Why don't The Phone and The Phone + have a camera or music player?

We chose to focus The Phone on the essentials: calls and texts. Adding a camera or music player would have made it more like a smartphone, contrary to our goal of digital minimalism.
Simple features may be introduced in the future, without straying from our vision.

Can you create SMS sending groups on The Phone?

No. The Phone and The Phone + do not allow the creation of group chats for sending SMS to multiple recipients, as is possible with apps like WhatsApp.

We carefully consider user feedback, and adding this feature is one of the options currently being explored for future updates.

Does The Phone have good battery life?

Yes! The Phone and The Phone + offer longer battery life than traditional smartphones, thanks to their optimized battery and the absence of Internet connectivity.

Can Pronote or Ecole directe be installed on The Phone?

No! The Phone (and The Phone +) being totally disconnected, it is not possible to use applications such as Pronote or Ecole directe, which we advise to consult from a family computer or tablet to avoid any distraction caused by notifications during homework.

What operating system does The Phone use, and are updates required?

The Phone (and The Phone +) run on a proprietary operating system designed for simple, smooth, and secure use, with no Internet access. Updates may occasionally be required and can be easily performed via a Windows computer, following the instructions we provide.

What SIM card format does The Phone require, and which carriers are compatible?

The Phone, like The Phone +, uses a nano-SIM, the standard format found in most modern smartphones. Both models are unlocked and compatible with all carriers. A simple calls-and-SMS plan is sufficient, no data plan is required.

How can I be sure that The Phone blocks access to the Internet and social media?

The Phone and The Phone + use an exclusive operating system that completely prevents access to the Internet or social media. It cannot be bypassed even by the most tech-savvy users!

Is The Phone durable, and is it covered by a warranty in case of an issue?

Yes! The Phone and its upgraded version, The Phone +, are designed to be durable and withstand everyday bumps and drops. They are covered by a warranty that includes manufacturing defects and technical issues for a specified period, detailed at the time of purchase.

How can I update my The Phone?

Please note: the update will completely reset your phone, so be sure to back up your contacts and data before you begin.

How do I open The Phone to insert/remove the battery?

To open your phone (The Phone or The Phone +), you will find a small notch on the front of the device, at the bottom right. Simply lever it open and the phone will open easily.

Can The Phone be reset?

Yes! You can reset your The Phone by installing the update available via this link.

This update will erase all data from your phone.

Please note that this update only applies to The Phone model and not The Phone +. We will notify you as soon as an update is available for this model.

Can the wallpaper on The Phone and The Phone+ be customized?

It is not possible to use a personal photo as wallpaper on our phones.

However, you can customise the display by choosing one of the five colours available in the “Settings” menu, then in the “Screens” submenu.

How do I set the date and time on The Phone?

The date and time are set directly in the Settings menu.

If your The Phone is not up to date (software version 1.0.0), install the update which will allow you to access the date and time settings in the Settings menu.

Are The Phone and The Phone + compatible with foreign operators?

Good news: The Phone is unlocked and works with all international carriers offering 2G or 3G coverage (nano SIM). The Phone+ works with all international carriers offering 4G coverage.

Therefore, there is no problem using it both in France and abroad, solely for calls and SMS, without needing internet access.

How do I change the PIN code on The Phone?

The PIN code cannot be changed directly from The Phone and The Phone +.

To make this change, you will need to insert your SIM card into a smartphone, then access the security settings of that phone to change the PIN code.

Once the change has been made, you will simply need to put the SIM card back in your The Phone / The Phone +: the new PIN code will then be taken into account

What should I do if my The Phone crashes or doesn't pick up the network?

For a crash, restart The Phone / The Phone + by holding the power button for a few seconds. For a network issue, check that your SIM card is properly inserted and that the phone is set to the correct network. If the problem persists, contact your mobile operator or our customer service department at sav@thephone.fr.

Can the password on The Phone be strengthened?

The Phone was designed without an internet connection, which means it is not possible to recover a forgotten password as on a regular smartphone.

To avoid any permanent lockout, it is possible to reset the password directly on the device.

This means that if someone gains access to the phone and changes the password, this change will be visible and can be easily detected.

Currently, there are no additional security or locking options available on The Phone or The Phone+. This choice was made to ensure parents have easy access while minimizing the risk of unauthorized access. A more robust locking system is under consideration for future updates

Will The Phone continue to work when 3G disappears?

In France, the 3G network will remain accessible at least until the end of 2028, or even the end of 2029.

Even in countries where 3G is starting to disappear, 2G takes over and allows your phone to continue to function normally (calls, SMS, etc.).

2G will remain active for the long term because it is the technology used on various systems such as elevator alarms.

What are the dimensions of The Phone / The Phone + and equivalent models?

The dimensions of The Phone and The Phone + (width: 6.7 cm, length: 14.5 cm) are close to those of the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone XR and the Samsung A50.

What are the SAR measurements of The Phone?

  • SAR head (use of the phone to the ear in voice conversation): limit 2 W/kg, our result 0.225 W/kg.
  • SAR torso (phone carried close to the torso, for example in a jacket pocket or in a bag): limit 2 W/kg, our result 0.582 W/kg.
  • SAR limb (phone pressed against a limb, for example held in the hand, carried in an armband or in a trouser pocket): limit 4 W/kg, our result 1.665 W/kg.

What are the SAR measurements of The Phone+?

In the event of a broken screen or crack, these damages are unfortunately not covered by the warranty, but we can direct you to our authorized repair partner Geek33, which is QualiRépar certified and has parts specifically adapted to our phones.

Is it possible to get my The Phone / The Phone + repaired near my home?

For now, we have entered into an exclusive partnership with Geek33, a repairer specially trained to repair our phones and having the specific spare parts for our devices, to offer you a quality and affordable service, under warranty and out of warranty.

We plan to eventually deploy this service locally to offer you a more accessible service. We will update this section when the time comes.

Does the phone already have a screen protector installed, and where can I get a compatible replacement tempered glass screen protector?

The Phone, just like The Phone +, comes to you already protected, with a spare tempered glass in the box.

To replace the protective glass on your device, you have two options:

  • Order directly online by following this link
  • Visit a mobile phone store or an e-commerce website. Cases designed for the iPhone 12 Pro or Samsung A50 are perfectly compatible with The Phone (dimensions: 6.7 cm x 14.5 cm), and those for the Samsung A40 are compatible with The Phone+.

Where can I find a compatible case for The Phone?

Each The Phone and each The Phone + comes with a transparent case designed specifically for our phones.

Regarding compatibility with other cases, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that another model will fit perfectly.

However, the dimensions of The Phone are quite close to those of the iPhone XR, the iPhone 12 Pro or the Samsung A 50. The Samsung A 40 for the The Phone + model.

If you wish to try cases designed for these models, we recommend visiting a phone store with the following measurements: 6.7 cm wide and 14.5 cm long. This will allow you to test them directly on-site and verify compatibility before making a purchase.

The Phone + is available exclusively on our official website www.thephone.fr our only sales channel. We deliver throughout the UK and Europe, with shipping costs varying by country.

What are the delivery times for The Phone?

For home delivery, please allow 48 to 72 business hours. For delivery to a Pickup Point, please allow 3-6 days. Our partners do their best to meet these delivery times. Please note that for international orders, this delivery time may be longer. For shipments to the United Kingdom, delivery typically takes six business days.

Can The Phone and The Phone + be used abroad?

The Phone + is compatible with 4G. However, please note that our first model only works with a 3G SIM card in countries where the 3G network is still available. In some areas, 3G is being phased out. Check with your operator to ensure that your plan is compatible with the local network.
